I'm replacing a five-year-old board and would like something compact but not cramped. A 75% layout seems right because I still use the function row and arrow keys every day.
The Keychron Q1 Max and NuPhy Halo75 V2 are on my list. I mostly write code, so comfort and reliable wireless matter more than lighting. Has anyone used either for a few months?
I have the Q1 Max with tactile switches. The aluminum case feels excellent, but it is heavy enough that I would not choose it for carrying between home and an office.
For long writing sessions I prefer a lighter tactile switch than the stock option. Swapping to Gateron Baby Kangaroos made it much more comfortable for me.
Another vote for 75%. I tried a 65% board and missed the function row more than expected, especially when debugging.
The Logitech MX Mechanical Mini is less customizable, but switching between three computers is effortless. If dependable multi-device support is a priority, it deserves a look.
I've used the Halo75 V2 since spring. The typing feel is softer than the Keychron, and the board is easy to move around. Battery life has been consistent with the lighting off.
One detail worth checking is keycap height. NuPhy's default profile took me a few days to get used to. If you already know you like standard Cherry-profile caps, the Keychron may be the safer choice.
